Living and walking in the Spirit

Judas saith unto Him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that Thou wilt manifest Thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love Me, he will keep My words: and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him. He that loveth Me not keepeth not My sayings: and the word which ye hear is not Mine, but the Father’s which sent Me (John 14:22-24).

God is love and it is God’s love that binds us to Jesus, this love is shed abroad in our spirit through the Holy Spirit. The problem many Christians have is that they think that our feelings, our sympathy and empathy, our natural love, is God’s love, but the love of God is different. There is a reality to the love of God that takes us straight to God, it is not how we feel but what God has promised. Those promises are God’s love for us, but they bring action, faith and relationship, not just a feeling. Our love fails but God’s love never does and it brings the answer with it. As we said yesterday, the entrance into the ongoing presence of God is in keeping His word, His commands, when we do that we are living according to the will of God, God is living in us and through us, we are living and ordering our life in Jesus. Our whole life becomes our worship to God. So we are one with Jesus and one with the Father. It was disobedience that saw the Israelites taken from the Promised Land into captivity. We live in God’s presence as long as we live and walk in the Spirit, following Jesus and the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, guiding and counselling us as Jesus said He would. But we must not do what the Israelites did and that was just to keep the letter of the law (Isaiah 29:13). All that God has done through Jesus is to build an intimate loving, trusting relationship with Jesus and with our Father through the Holy Spirit. As we follow Jesus He becomes more and more real to us, we have an ongoing relationship with Him, He loves us in the detail of our life. Jesus is interested and involved in all we do and say. He is our constant conversation, our constant companion, our Master, our Friend. At the beginning of John 14 Jesus betrothed Himself to His disciples, as a bridegroom betrothed Himself to his bride. We are bought with the price, paid in the blood of Jesus, we are His beloved. We are now living a sanctified life, separate from the world, preparing ourselves for the soon return of Jesus in the rapture as He has promised.
